About the project

New life of the Old Town: revitalization of monuments of historical and cultural heritage of Lutsk and Lublin is a project combining cross-border cooperation of partner cities in infrastructure and soft activities.

As part of the project, the city of Lublin obtained EUR 527 189.00, most of which are the revitalization of the Gothic Tower located at ul. Jezuicka 5, 7 (including architectural research, conservation works, renovation of the roof covering, installation of the tower's illumination, reconstruction of the tower's interior and a fragment of the defensive walls). The creation of a 16th century bronze model of the Castle Hill and placing it in the Old Town area is another tourist and promotional attraction co-financed by the project, prepared for the residents and guests of Lublin, as well as the organization of two editions of the Legend Festival - 2019, 2020 - an event during which The Old Town Square turns into a magic melting pot where events and heroes of Lublin's more or less known stories mix.

Activities remaining on the part of Lublin include, first of all, the development of new and improvement of old tourist routes, the development of a scientific publication on the history of the Gothic Tower and defensive walls, and the development of a folder for children devoted to the legends of Lublin and Łuck.

The city of Lutsk obtained EUR 1,149,209.00 under the project. Activities on the part of the Ukrainian partner will focus on works aimed at reviving the former glory of the Czartoryski Tower with a defensive wall and the Jesuit monastery with underground cellars. Arranging an interactive museum of medieval knights in the cellars under the tower and creating an exhibition in the monastery's dungeons will be a valuable attraction for the inhabitants of Lutsk and tourists visiting the city for a long time. The project is complemented by scientific conferences and a broadly understood information and promotion campaign.

Cross-border cooperation under the project will strengthen the partnership between Lutsk and Lublin, promote intercultural dialogue and shared historical heritage, and help attract more tourists to historic cities.

The project is implemented under the Poland-Belarus-Ukraine Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2014-2020, financed by the European Union under the European Neighborhood Instrument. The total value of the project is EUR 1,676,398, co-financing of the project is 90%, own contribution of partner cities 10%.
